Friday Digital Roundup

The Friday Digital Roundup is a witty take on the weird world of the internet. With fun stories from around the globe, it’s the only email newsletter you’ll actually read and enjoy!

We do love writing it, but clearly not as much as people like receiving it - just look at the response we got when a technical hitch meant it wasn’t sent out on time!

Coffee and the FDR is how I start my Friday.
Do not engage until I have devoured both

When it comes to the end of the week, there is no better way to start a Friday than with a run around the internet with Todd and Jo in the FDR. Just don't let them know I do it from the loo!

From Average to Exceptional: Tips and Tricks for Writing a Kick-Ass LinkedIn Bio

Mon 24th Apr 2023

Writing or updating your LinkedIn bio isn’t always easy. You may have convinced yourself that your photo makes it look complete enough, or that your company shared posts already do the talking for you. [Insert other excuses here]

It’s no secret that LinkedIn is one of the most powerful social media platforms out there for professionals. Whether you’re a freelancer, a business owner, a graduate, employee, avid networker, or somebody looking to land your dream job, LinkedIn is one of the best ways to get yourself out there.

Alongside your shiny new headshot, having a carefully-crafted LinkedIn bio is essential for making a good impression and standing out from the crowd. Today we’re going to be talking about the importance of a LinkedIn bio, and ways in which you can use this little bit of space to share your skills, experience, and most importantly, your personality.

From Average to Exceptional: Tips and Tricks for Writing a Kick-Ass LinkedIn Bio

What’s so important about my LinkedIn bio?

A bio, also known as biography, is an opportunity to promote yourself, your skillset and your experience, at the top of your profile.

Crafting a LinkedIn bio that stands out to potential clients, employers, and connections requires a little bit of creative thinking and a sprinkle of strategy. To help get you started, here are some top tips for creating a LinkedIn bio that stands out for the right reasons.

Let Your Personality Shine

The best LinkedIn bios are those that show a little bit of personality. Nobody wants to read something that appears robotic and generic. Instead, be yourself and use your bio to show off what makes you unique. Whether you have a great sense of humour, a great approach to problem-solving, or a passion for a particular topic or cause, make sure to highlight this as it could well be what makes you different from the next person.

Share your Professional Accomplishments

Your LinkedIn bio is the perfect place to shout about your professional accomplishments. Use this space to list any awards or achievements that you’ve gained throughout your career. You can go into more detail using the skills and certifications section, but be sure to include the special ones at the top. If you’re stuck for ideas, think about any recent projects that you’ve been involved in, as well as any recognition or feedback your work has received.

Demonstrate Your Values

Your LinkedIn bio is a great opportunity to demonstrate your values. This can include your personal values or beliefs, to values that you bring to the workplace. Consider sharing how you strive to make a positive impact and your passion for helping others. Writing about ourselves can be difficult, so ask a colleague for some help identifying your strengths if you need to.

Keywords Are Your Friend

When it comes to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), key words play a huge role in helping potential employers or recruiters to find you. If you search ‘experienced social media manger’ or ‘freelance copywriter’ you’ll notice that your provided with a list of profiles in a flash. Take a moment to think about some keywords that may be associated with your skillset or experience and include them in your bio. These can be both industry specific or buzzwords such as ‘innovative’ or ‘strategic’.

Last But Not Least – Get Creative

Your LinkedIn bio shouldn’t be boring. This is your space to get creative and have some fun with it. Play around with formats and perhaps throw in some bullet points for easy reading.

We hope that you’ve found this helpful and are feeling inspired to create or refresh your bio. If you’re interested in how you can utilise your profile to get more business, contact us about our LinkedIn workshops. Todd definitely knows a thing or two about LinkedIn and would be happy to help.
